EYFS Zebra and Giraffe
Welcome to EYFS at Our School!
We are so excited to welcome you to Early Years at our school. We have two classes, Giraffe Class and Zebra Class, as well as a fantastic outdoor learning space. Children are able to use all of these areas throughout the day, which really supports their learning as they explore a wide range of activities based on their own interests, developing curiosity, creativity and independence.
We also love outdoor learning! We regularly visit the wooded area at the top of the field for Forest School activities and make full use of our outside learning space under the canopy. Here, children can enjoy water play, sand, small world activities, construction, role play and creative experiences while developing their physical skills, teamwork and confidence.
The grown-ups in EYFS work across both classes and all learning areas, so children get to spend time with everyone and always have a familiar adult nearby to help, support and encourage them.

Phonics
Sound blending
How we learn…
PE
We have PE on Wednesdays and Fridays, and children should come to school wearing their PE kit on these days. Please ensure all clothing is clearly named.
Reading and Phonics
In Phonics we follow the Read Write Inc. programme, which helps children become confident readers and writers through fun, engaging daily lessons. Children will also bring home reading books and will have regular opportunities to share stories both at school and at home. Parents and carers will learn more about how to support reading during our workshop sessions.
Maths
In Maths we have lots of fun using practical resources to develop children’s understanding of number, shape, space and measure. We explore mathematical vocabulary through games, investigations and everyday experiences, helping children become confident problem-solvers.
Learning Through Play
Our curriculum is carefully planned around children’s interests and the Early Years Foundation Stage. Through a balance of child-initiated play and adult-led activities, children develop their communication and language, personal and social skills, physical development and understanding of the world. We encourage children to become kind, respectful and independent learners who enjoy exploring, questioning and discovering new things every day.
Working Together
We believe that a strong partnership between home and school helps children thrive. We value regular communication with parents and carers and look forward to sharing your child’s learning and celebrating their achievements throughout the year.
Most importantly, we have lots of fun together! We want every child to feel happy, safe and valued as they begin their school journey. Through exciting, play-based experiences, children grow into confident, resilient and independent learners with a love of learning that will stay with them throughout their time at school.
