Remote Learning

The remote learning curriculum at Bromley Heath Infant School.

In the academic year 2020-2021, Bromley Heath Infants (and linked Juniors) set up Google Classrooms for two purposes:

• in the event of a lockdown, as happened in January 2021, when the  government had been forced to close schools other than for the children of key workers; those with an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP), and vulnerable pupils.
• in the event of individual children needing to self-isolate and so work remotely if well enough.

In the event of a whole-school closure – or possibly year group closure depending on staffing – we would move to remote learning for the majority of our children. In this instance, we would try to ensure that our home learning provides a good blend of direct learning from the class teacher, online video teaching sessions (which would also be used in school for those children of key workers or who are vulnerable), and time away from the screen to apply their learning and embed new knowledge. As part of this provision, staff would deliver live sessions daily through Google Meet on Google Classroom. These lessons would provide opportunities for pupils to engage with their teacher, their peers and their learning. We believe this is  key in helping to motivate pupils and provide feedback thus enhancing our learning provision.

For individual self-isolations, where the majority of children are in school, this level of provision is not possible but we will ensure that daily phonics, English, maths and some wider curriculum work is set which relates to what is being taught in school; this would also be uploaded onto Google Classroom. We know that when compiling our learning provision for each child that the environment will look different in every home. Consequently we try to provide a flexible offer which will work for you and meet the needs of all  of our children.
