BHIS 50th Birthday Celebrations 1962—2012
I am pleased to announce that this year the school is celebrating its 50th anniversary. We will be organising a range of different events for both children and the local community to celebrate this special occasion. Also during Term 4 the school will be turning back time and studying the 1960s!
We have set up a team to co-ordinate events and the Friends of School are also helping to organise events for the whole school community. The School’s Anniversary team will be contacting you in the near future with a program of events and request for your support.
If you, or a family member, has any 1960s memorabilia that the school could use as a teaching resource or as part of our 1960s exhibition please send to the school office. We request that anything you send to school is named and note whether it is for use as a resource (that the children may handle) or for our exhibition. Our birthday celebrations will culminate in a week of special events during the 19th – 23rd March.
Congratulations
Well done to Lisa Warren, Zebra Class teacher and our PE leader who received a lifetime achievement award at the recent South Gloucestershire sports awards ceremony. Lisa was acknowledged for her dedication and hard work as a PE leader; not only here at Bromley Heath Infant School but within our cluster of schools in Downend and Mangotsfield.
Goodbyes and Goodluck
Earlier this month we said a sad farewell to Ruby Davis, one of our school cleaning team. Ruby had worked at the school for 32years. We wish her the very best for the future and say a very big thank you for all of her hard work during her time with us.
We also say goodbye to Mrs Harrison one of our SMSAs at the end of this term and would like to say another thank you for her hard work at lunchtimes.
Thank You!
As you know we held leaving collections from each of our Christmas performances. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your generosity. We collected an amazing £322 for St Peter’s Hospice; which I am sure will be put to good use by this worthy charity.
We will be organising other fund raising events for St Peter’s Hospice later in the year.
Vacancy
We have a very caring and happy team of school lunchtime supervisors and are now looking to recruit a permanent supervisor and create a bank of casual supervisors to cover absences and sickness.
You will need a genuine love of children and the ability to engage them in activities and games during the lunchtime period.
If you are interested in a position please contact the office .
Healthy Schools
As a healthy school we are committed to censuring that all children have healthy snacks during morning break and in their lunch boxes. We have noticed that more crisps, chocolate bars and processed foods are being sent to school and some children are bringing squash in their water bottles. Children are only permitted to drink water throughout the day due to the corrosive nature of squash on young children’s teeth.
Can I please ask you to support the school by providing healthy snacks and drinks for your child.
Extra Funding for School
I would like to thank all of the parents, staff and governors who attended our recent meeting exploring how we could raise extra funds for our school.
We had a very fruitful evening exploring different ways of gaining extra funding for Bromley Heath Infant School.
The aim of this evening was not to ask yourselves for extra funding (you already give enough through the friends of school) but investigate any links you may have with local or national businesses; who may be willing to provide services or sponsorship for capital projects within the school.
We arranged the meeting because we are looking to close the gap in a shrinking budget and although there is not a cause for concern at this time ,with the 2012 budget being sound; the 2013 budget is looking grey and 2014 black!
We also explored the links between corporate fund raising and the work of the Friends of
School and it was felt that a joint approach to this would be more successful than working individually. With this in mind we are looking to set up a working party of parents, governors, friends of school and staff to develop the ideas further and gain some funding for the school. If you would like to involved please contact the school office and leave your name
