Design Technology

Our aim in DT is to raise our children's awareness of their surroundings, i.e. all things are designed for a purpose:

  • to think imaginatively and talk about what they like and dislike when designing and making
  • to build on their early childhood experiences of investigating objects around them.
  • To explore how things work and talk about, draw and model their ideas.

History

Our aim is for children to:

  • develop an awareness of the past and their relationship to it:
  • understand everyday life and lifestyles in past times through stories and listening to adults talking about their own past, through artifacts and photographs;
  • understand how the past influences and is different from the present.

Geography

We want our children to:

  • develop the basic skills of map reading and map making, through investigating       their school and local environment and the people who live there.
  • develop -
    • a) an understanding of other localities through pictures, postcards and photographs, and
      b) an awareness of how features of a place affect other people's lives.
  • learn about the wider world.

Creative and Aesthetic Development

We aim:

  • to enable children to develop their creativity and imagination
  • to provide experiences to enhance the development of the child's ability to respond to a variety of stimuli through art and craft, music, drama or dance;
  • to encourage techniques and use of materials, tools and instruments through which this response may be expressed;
  • to foster the problem-solving aspect of the creative process and to explore its full potential as a learning experience and in cross-curricular links.

Our pupils will work with clay, wood and textiles and will experience painting, drawing, model making and collage.

Music

We want the children to listen carefully and respond appropriately to a wide range of music.  They will play musical instruments and sing a variety of songs from memory.  As confidence develops accompaniments may be added and short compositions composed reflecting imagination and control.

PE

The children will build on their natural enthusiasm for movement using it to explore and learn about their world.  Our aim is for the children to develop their skills in movement, co-ordination and enjoyment and confidence.
