Curriculum
The School Curriculum consists of the core subjects, English, Mathematics, Science, ICT and RE and the non-core subjects, History, Geography, Design Technology, Music, Art and Design, Physical Education and Personal, Social and Health Education. These subjects form the National Curriculum.
At Bromley Heath Infant School, the staff are constantly reviewing and refining the Curriculum offered, and are a strong, highly motivated, caring teaching team, sharing commitment and dedication to the education of our pupils. Teachers take responsibility for different areas of learning, acting as consultants for the rest of the staff and ensuring the continued development and extension of the curriculum, as well as continuity and progression throughout the school.
Teachers are continuously assessing children, keeping careful records of development and progress. In their final year in Key Stage 1, our Year 2 pupils are formally assessed, mainly by Teacher Assessment and if appropriate, by administering Standard Assessment Tasks and the results reported to parents.
We teach through a topic-based approach and first hand experience. Each class or year group, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, or sometimes the whole school, will choose a theme. Subjects may be integrated to form a broad and balanced curriculum with care being taken to ensure that all the National Curriculum demands are fulfilled and that children learn key skills.
Teaching is planned as class, group or individual work. Groups may be organised according to ability or mixed ability depending on the activity.
Inclusion
Our school values the individuality of all our children. We are committed to give all children every opportunity to achieve the highest of standards. In this way we ensure that this happens for the children regardless of their age, gender, ethnicity, attainment or background.
Bromley Heath Infant School aims to be an inclusive school. This means that equality of opportunity for our children is a reality. We have a designated Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo) and a Co-ordinator for the Gifted and Talented, whose key roles are the identification and support, of the specific needs of certain children.
As a recipient of the Healthy Schools Award and Activemark, we maintain a focus on good health, fitness and well being for everyone in our school community. |
