Learning and Teaching

Learning is at the heart of school life.  It is a life long process, which recognises and develops the skills of the learner.  The learning styles of the children as learners and the teacher’s creative approach to teaching are fundamental elements of successful learning.

Our aims for teaching and learning are that all children:

  • Will learn in a happy, secure and stimulating environment, which is effectively managed and well resourced.
  • Will reach their full potential through an appropriate and enriching curriculum with a strong emphasis upon the basic skills.  Praise and encouragement will enable children to feel valued and successful.
  • Will develop a positive attitude towards learning and take a pride in their achievements.
  • Will be polite and self disciplined.  They will learn to be co-operative and show respect and consideration towards others and their environment.

All members of the school community are encouraged to work co-operatively towards these aims in a positive nurturing atmosphere where all learning is valued and recognised.

The Desirable Learning Goals is the curriculum that is followed during the Reception or Foundation Stage.  It is particularly suited to the needs of four and five year olds.  Further information is available on this curriculum in our Starting School Booklet and during a meeting with parents of Reception children in the Autumn Term.
